Meet of Champs - Helpful Information
Please let us know if you have any questions or need clarifications (biba-geoffreydixon@sbcglobal.net or jenniferjhyland@comcast.net).
Good luck to all our Piranha swimmers!!
Team Tents
Your team tent will be set up for you upon your arrival on Saturday. The tents will remain up through the weekend. You will see, the tents will be in close proximity to one another. This is so the PA system I have rented can be heard by everyone when we start calling swimmers for ready bench. For those teams who are setting up their own tents, you will be asked to line up with the existing tents.
If you are planning on bringing generators for fans, etc., you will be required to have them stationed at least 300 feet away from the team tent section (basically the distance of 4 standard outdoor extension cords) so plan accordingly.
With that said, our plans are to have a large ready bench area so we can accommodate as many swimmers as possible and keep them in the A/C.
Spectator Entrance
Spectators will enter the building on the south side, by the team tents. Swimmers will exit through this same door but have a separate "Ready Bench" entrance.
Volunteer / Coaches Entrance
Volunteers will enter the building on the north side, by the baseball field. They will check in at the office and receive their proper credentials.
All volunteers must check in 30 minutes before the meet starts. There will be a mandatory meeting 20 minutes prior to each session.
Those coaches who want to sit 'on deck' must check in and receive their credentials. Only 2 coaches per team.
Rest Rooms
There are rest rooms located just inside the south side entrance. They have been enlarged compared to what they used to be.
Swimmers may also use the locker room rest rooms. Access to these are via the north side door. Younger swimmers must be accompanied by a Ready Bench Volunteer or coach.
Concessions
Concessions will be available outside the building. PLEASE NO FOOD IN THE NATATORIUM.
T-shirts and heat sheets will be available for sale.
Lane 4 sports will also be there selling merchandise.
Team Ready Bench Volunteers
These team volunteers will not receive credentials and will not be permitted on the pool deck. They must watch from the general spectator area.
You will be asked to bring your group to the special "Swimmer" entrance which is located on the east side of the building.
In an effort to make things run smoothly, we are recommending to mark on the swimmers' left arms all races they are participating in. Please list EVENT / HEAT / LANE per the heat sheet.
It should look like this: 17 / 2 / 6 which would be event 17, heat 2, lane 6.
We will have a very loud PA system set up by the team tent area that will be used for "Event Call" only.
We are planning on calling several groups at a time to the ready bench in an effort to keep as many of the kids in the A/C and out of the heat.

Meet of Champs - Start Times and Warm Up Times
Here is additional information that I received today from the league regarding Meet of Champs.
Warm Ups
Saturday AM Saturday PM Sunday
7:45 12:45 12:45 Spring Board Lanes 1-4
7:45 12:45 12:45 Plaza Oaks Lanes 5-8
Start Time
Saturday AM Saturday PM Sunday
9am 2pm 2pm
To Recap:
10 and Unders will warm up at 7:45 AM on Saturday morning. Please be early, we only get 15 minutes in the pool. They will start their preliminary rounds of racing at 9 AM. The meet should end around 12 PM.
11 and Ups will warm up at 12:45 PM on Saturday afternoon. Again, please arrive early as we only have 15 minutes. Their preliminary racing will start at 2 PM.
Everyone who is in a relay and who qualifies for finals will return on Sunday. Warm ups are at 12:45 (don't be late!) and the meet starts at 2 PM.
__________
*Each team will have a designated seating area outside the Natatorium. Swimmers should sit under the Plaza Oaks tent and stay there as much as possible so that Ready Bench volunteers can find them for their races. This meet moves fast and we don't have time to run all over looking for a missing swimmer. Parents, consider packing healthy snacks in a cooler or going yourself to purchase from concessions so your child can stay in the team area.
__________
*And finally, to make the meet run we need lots of volunteers. I have already talked to many parents who have graciously volunteered to help. If I have not talked to you yet, expect a call or email asking you to help us out. I will be at the Nat tomorrow for the practice so find me there if you want to offer your services. This meet is very different from normal meets and most jobs are considerably easier! This year our team's job is Hospitality. This involves walking the deck inside (in the a/c!) and handing out water to meet officials. I am trying to recruit enough helpers so that we can work in shifts and only have to work half a session. I will send a separate email with volunteer information and slots still needing to be filled.
Questions? Call (713-461-4662) or email (jenniferjhyland@comcast.net).

Natatorium Practice June 24, 11 AM
Tomorrow there is normal swim team practice at your kid's usual time in the morning as well as a special "extra" practice session at 11 AM at the Spring Branch Natatorium. This extra practice is intended to allow the kids to familiarize themselves with a new and possibly intimidating venue. The kids will be able to walk around as well as swim to get comfortable with the pool. If at all possible please try to be there as this seems to be helpful to the kids, especially first timers.
The Spring Branch Natatorium is located next to Spring Woods High School at
W. W. Emmons Natatorium
10404 Tiger Trail
Houston, Texas 77043
(#21 on the map linked below)

Memorial Forest @ Plaza Oaks, Thursday, June 10
Thursday is our 1st home meet against Memorial Forest.
*Please have your swimmers there by 4:45pm. They will be warming up at 5pm and the meet will start at 6pm. Half-lappers and 6&unders will not warm up before the meet.
*Parking will be crazy, so if you can, try to use only one car and watch for swimmers walking thru the parking lot.
*Volunteers –
For those of you volunteering Thursday night, we will have a volunteer check-in table (near or on the picnic table) for you to pick up your clipboards/watches/heat sheets… Athena Cashiola and Becca Howard will be manning the table.
*A few gentle reminders…
*Please remind your children that we need to all help keep the playground area clean by throwing away our trash and picking up after each other. After the B&W meet there was trash all over the playground area. So, please, no matter when you leave the meet, ask your children to help by picking up some trash before you go.
*It is tempting to stand on the deck of the pool by the place judges to watch your child swim, but we MUST keep that area clear for the swimmers, coaches and judges.
*One last reminder, no alcohol at the pool!
*Sportsmanship –
*This is a good time to remind your swimmers that no matter what happens in the water, they should be gracious to the other swimmers and to the judges. It would be great if they say, “good swim” to their competitors and fellow team mates. And, no foul language!
*Parents, we ask that you remember that all volunteers are trying their best at their assigned post. You might not always agree with their call, but you are not allowed to argue with them. This is not a perfect system and sometimes there will be mistakes. In turn, sometimes we see things differently when our own children are involved. Finally, we need to remember that our children are watching our actions and we want to remain good examples. And, again, no foul language!

Blue / White Meet - Monday, June 7
Our Blue and White meet is this Monday, June 7th. This is a good time for us to get times on the swimmers and for them to get a feel of what a real meet is like. We will not do relays, just individual strokes.
*Please have your swimmers arrive by 5 PM. We will take the team picture at 5:15 PM so make sure your swimmers wear their team suits. The swimmers will warm-up after the pictures and the meet will begin at 6 PM.
*There is practice on Monday morning. The coaches have split the kids into the blue and white teams and will tell them Monday morning which team they are on.
*We need baked goods! If you can, please bring desserts for our concessions to sell. We will do this at each home meet - it is a great way to raise a little money for the team!
*The concessions will have hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and hot dogs with the trimmings - so, parents, come hungry!
*Tuesday morning practice - after every meet we provide donuts for the swimmers the next morning. We ask for donations to help cover the cost. Please contact Rhonda King at mrking@sbcglobal.net if you would like to donate.
